Labor Council Conducts Annual Children’s Project
The third annual Walter Klepaski Jr. Greater Wilkes-Barre Labor Council “Unions Care” Christmas Project was held on Dec. 11 at Teamsters Local 401 union hall in Wilkes-Barre. Six hundred and fifty large Christmas stockings were filled with a variety of items which were purchased through donations from many local area unions, businesses, and individuals. The stockings are distributed to children who are served at Children’s Service Center, Wyoming Valley Children’s Association, Catholic Social Services, Family Services Association, and Domestic Violence Service Center. At the Wyoming Valley Children’s Association distribution event, local area firefighters bring Santa on a fire truck to visit the children and help hand out the stockings. The Christmas community service project is conducted by the Greater Wilkes-Barre Labor Council (GWBLC) and its affiliates and is coordinated by Scott Kucharski, president of Teamsters Local No. 401. Joe Padavan, GWBLC president and Kucharski said this year’s project was the most successful to date and thanked all the volunteers and donors who helped make this year’s project a success. Due to the increased generosity of this year’s donors and volunteers, the project was able to distribute an additional 50 stockings over last year’s total to area children.
