Weiner says he wouldn’t run for Congress again

September 9, 2013

NEW YORK (AP) — Anthony Weiner says he won’t run for Congress again if he loses the New York mayoral race.

The former congressman made the comment Monday in response to a question on NBC’s “Today” show. He says Congress is no longer “a great place if you want to solve problems.”

Weiner says being the mayor of New York City is a better job.

Weiner abandoned his U.S. House seat in 2011 after a sexting scandal. He was a front-runner among the Democratic mayoral candidates, but his support collapsed when it was revealed that he engaged in similar behavior after he left Congress.

A Quinnipiac (KWIHN’-ih-pee-ak) poll released Monday shows Weiner trailing badly.

The Democratic primary is Tuesday.
