EASTBOURNE, England (AP) _ Defending champion Chanda Rubin saved two match points and beat Jennifer Capriati 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 Friday to reach the Eastbourne final.

Rubin, seeded second in this Wimbledon tuneup, will face the winner of Friday's second semifinal between former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez of Spain and Silvia Farina Elia of Italy.

The third-seeded Capriati swept through the first set and went up a break at 3-2 in the second. With a 5-3 lead, Capriati held two match points as Rubin served at 15-40.

But Capriati made errors on both returns and Rubin held. Capriati then served for the match in the next game but Rubin broke at love and took the set in a tiebreaker. Rubin lost serve in the second game of the final set but broke Capriati three times.

Rubin, who had stayed at the baseline for most of the first two sets, began attacking and coming to the net.

``I just had to find a way to come in instead of waiting for a short ball,'' she said. ``I was trying to move in on anything I could hit at the end of the second set and beginning of the third.''

Capriati said she had difficulty with the wind but gave Rubin full credit.

``She just really played well on those (match) points,'' Capriati said. ``You have to give credit to her for turning the match around. She just went for broke all of a sudden and was like a completely different player.''
