LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Latest on the arrest of a woman who reported her 3-year-old daughter missing before a child’s body was found in a duffel bag in a closet (all times local):
Authorities in Las Vegas have identified a 29-year-old woman arrested after officers searching for her missing 3-year-old daughter found a child’s body stuffed in a duffel bag hidden in a closet in the woman’s apartment.
Aisha Yvonne Thomas was jailed Friday pending an initial court appearance at which she is expected to have a lawyer named to represent her on an open murder charge.
The Clark County coroner did not immediately confirm the girl’s identity or say how she died.
Police say the body matched the description of the child they were looking for late Thursday.
Police say Thomas told officers that her daughter disappeared as she walked her four children to a grocery store.
The child’s father had been arrested Tuesday by police responding to a domestic violence call at the residence.
Las Vegas police searching for a missing 3-year-old girl found the dead body of a child in a duffel bag in a closet in the girl’s mother’s apartment.
Police did not confirm the body found Friday after hours of searching is that of the missing girl but say it matches her description.
The mother reported to police Thursday night that her daughter disappeared as she walked her four children to a grocery store.
The woman was taken into custody and the other three children were taken away by child-welfare officials.
No identities were released.
Police Lt. Ray Spencer says it appeared the child died within the last three days.
He says the girl’s father was arrested Tuesday when police responded to a domestic violence call at their residence.
