Penthouse Says Hahn Worked As Prostitute
NEW YORK (AP) _ An article written for Penthouse magazine quotes a woman who said she had been a madam as saying that Jessica Hahn worked for her as a prostitute in 1977 and 1978.
Miss Hahn has said she was a virgin when PTL ministry founder Jim Bakker had a sexual encounter with her in 1980, and that Bakker and another evangelist raped her.
The article for the magazine’s January issue quotes Roxanne Dacus as saying she was a madam on Long Island until a raid by Nassau County police in December 1978. A copy of the article was released Sunday.
Ms. Dacus said a woman named Jessie worked for her in 1977 and 1978 and that she recognized the woman as Miss Hahn in recent television appearances.
Dominic Barbara, an attorney for Miss Hahn, said, ″Well, of course, she denies it″ and that she ″never met her (Ms. Dacus) in her life.″
″We will be presenting both proof and witnesses about this story″ at an as yet unscheduled news conference in New York City later this week, and announce whether a lawsuit is planned, Barbara said.
Miss Hahn, 28, is now living in the Playboy mansion in Los Angeles. The mansion has an unlisted telephone number and a spokesman for Playboy Enterprises did not answer his telephone Sunday.
Nassau County police officer Frank O’Connor said a woman named Betty Dacus was arrested Dec. 20, 1978, at the address mentioned in the article, and was charged with three counts of prostitution and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
Ed Grilli, spokesman for the district attorney’s office, said the woman pleaded guilty to promoting prostitution and was sentenced to one year’s probation.
Miss Hahn was a central figure in Bakker’s fall, when he left the television ministry in the wake of a scandal involving the sexual encounter with her and hush money paid to her.
Bakker admitted the 1980 incident took place and characterized Miss Hahn as sexually experienced.
