Man accused in fatal car shooting arrested in other state

GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina sheriff says a man accused of shooting into a car and killing another man months ago has been arrested in North Carolina.

Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller tells news outlets that Salvador Marquez had been wanted since the shooting in January that killed 33-year-old Matthew Littlejohn. Mueller says Marquez was jailed in Gastonia and scheduled for an extradition hearing Monday.

The sheriff says Littlejohn was found dead with a gunshot wound inside a car. A passenger told deputies that a person in another car followed them from a gas station and started shooting as they drove on a highway.

Authorities say they hope to transfer Marquez from Gaston County to Cherokee for a murder warrant this week.

It’s unclear if Marquez has a lawyer who could comment.
