Kids try their turn at tractor pulling

During this year’s

Harford Fair, 141 kids, ages 4 to 10, participated in the Kiddy Tractor Pull competition, setting a record for number of participants in the contest.

First-place winners in the girls junior division include: Coral Clark, 4 years old; Riley Spear, 5; Rylee Traver, 6; and Kali Harvatine, 7.

First-place winners in the boys junior division include: Luke Gardner, 4 years old; Wyatt Herbert, 5; Gary Haskell, 6; and Christopher Kowalewski, 7.

In the girls senior division, first-place winners include: Abigail Owens, 8 years old; Lynndee Barbour, 9; and Kiley Barbour, 10.

In the boys senior division, first place winners include: Mark Nebzydoski, 8 years old; Aiden Empet, 9; and Dakota Gardner, 10.

The children on pedal tractors pedaled and pulled a weight sled as far as their legs would take them.

All 141 kids received ribbons and the first-place winners received a trophy. Cooper VanCott, VanCottNursery and Landscaping, sponsored the event and handed out treats to all of the participants.

Alternate Harford Fair Queen Kaylie Grosvenor and Susquehanna County Dairy Princess Mary Catherine Chidester presented awards.

For the past 27 years, Doug Puzo of Puzo’s Collision made sure the pulling tractors and weight sled were in good shape for kids to peddle their hardest to the finish line.

High notes

Audra Lynch took the title of 2018 Country Club of Scranton Ladies Club Champion for the second consecutive year.

The championship was a thee-day competition. Lynch played three solid rounds totaling 247 (86,79,82) to defend her championship.

Karen Sproul took second place.

New officers

Melanie Naro will serve as the Scranton Chapter of UNICO president.

Jim Brogna is first vice president; Gail Cicerini, second vice president; Bill Buckley, treasurer; Mary Mararra, membership chair; and Dave Bieri, sergeant-at-arms.

New members of the chapter include: Ann Reilly, sponsor; Tess Reilly, newest member of ACES, a program for under 18 teens; Anne Marie Dupre and John and Andrea Disanferdinand, sponsors.

UNICO Scranton Ladies Auxiliary new officers for 2018-2019 include: Patti Montalbano, auxiliary president; Joanne Quattrone, vice president; Clarice Zaydon, financial secretary; Judi Zanghi, recording secretary; Danelle Hogan, corresponding secretary; Diane Alberigi, treasurer; Palma Yanni, installing officer; and Julie Yando, outgoing auxiliary president.
