MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray says he will pursue a career in the NFL over playing baseball for the Oakland Athletics. Murray was the ninth overall pick in last June’s baseball amateur draft, and the outfielder agreed to a minor league contract with Oakland for a $4.66 million signing bonus. He is a football quarterback and is eligible for this year’s NFL draft, which starts April; 25.
UNDATED (AP) — Tennessee remains No. 1 in The Associated Press men’s college basketball poll despite Duke earning the top overall seed in the NCAA’s initial rankings for March Madness. The Blue Devils received the top seed in the NCAA Division I Basketball Committee, but the Vols received 40 of 64 first-place votes from a media panel in the AP Top 25. No. 2 Duke had the remaining 24 first-place votes.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — On the heels of a weekend defeat by Duke, the fourth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers head to Chapel Hill tonight to take on number-eight North Carolina. The other game involving a top 25 team has number-14 Kansas at TCU.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The team with the NBA’s worst mark meets the team with a record nearly as bad tonight in Cleveland. The New York Knicks, who’ve lost 16 in a row to leave them at a league-worst 10-and-45, take on the 11-and-45 Cavaliers.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — The San Jose Sharks are looking for a sixth straight win as they take on the Canucks in Vancouver tonight. It’s the last game of a successful four-game road swing for the Sharks. Tonight’s NHL schedule also finds Pittsburgh at Philadelphia and Los Angeles at Washington.
