Nina B. Knox

Nina Bess Knox, 81 of Quincy, California went home to her Lord on Nov. 29, 2017. Nina was born in Holstein, Nebraska on Aug. 30, 1936, and was delivered by her father, George Hogle. The family moved to Crete, before she started school. As a little girl, Nina loved being outdoors, helping on the farm and won several ribbons at the fair with her calf, Trudy. She was an avid reader and loved gardening, especially roses and irises. She also loved music, played violin and saxophone and sang in choral groups at school and church. After graduating from high school, she met Duane Knox and they were married in December of 1955. They lived in Lincoln for several years before moving to Palo Alto, California. While her children were young, she worked nights as a nursing assistant and went back to school and became a registered nurse in 1977. In 1987, they moved to Quincy, California, where they opened Stone House Furniture. She joined a music group called the Silver Threads and also played the violin for nursing homes and senior nutrition centers. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, led congregational singing and was also a deacon. In her late seventies, she injured her arm and could no longer play violin and learned to play the cello. She loved team sports, especially the Huskers and the San Francisco Giants. She also loved fishing in the Little Blue River, Lake Mohave in Nevada and Shasta Lake in California.

Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Knox and Audrey Ruelas and husband Bernard; one son, Bayard Knox and wife Karen; four grandchildren, Krisalyn Whiteaker and fiancé Paul Lopez, Melody Kruse and her husband Dan, Jana Cancel and her husband Michael, Joshua Knox; four siblings, Kathy Pongratz, Lois Brinton, Yvonne Konkler and Stan Hogle; sister-in-law, Judy (Knox) Doles; many nephews and nieces; and dear family friend, Guy Hadland. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Eva (Burchell) Hogle; and her husband, Duane Knox.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice. Inurnment of the cremains will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice. A register book will be available for signatures at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Saturday. www.foxfuneralhome.net.
