BEIJING (AP) — A man involved in a property dispute stabbed six people to death in a Beijing district and injured others on Thursday, police said.

A statement posted on the microblog of Beijing police’s publicity office said the attacks happened around noon in a village in Huairou district. Beijing covers a large area and some rural areas come under its remit.

The statement said police captured a 34-year-old suspect with the surname Zhou. Initial investigations have found that a resident in Huairou district’s Wanghua village stabbed “many people” with a knife because of a property dispute involving his family, the statement said. It said the injured were taken to hospital, but didn’t say how many of them there were.

The suspect’s family members said he had a history of mental illness, the statement said.
