Woman dies in N. Brighton apartment; suspect arrested at car wash
A woman’s death in a New Brighton home is being investigated as a murder, and a man known to her was arrested.
Officers were called to an apartment Thursday evening in the 700 block of 1st Avenue NW. and found the 28-year-old woman inside and not breathing, police said.
Emergency responders’ attempts to revive her were not successful. Police said the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office was working to determine what led to her death. Her identity has yet to be released.
Law enforcement tracked down the 28-year-old suspect Friday at a car wash in the 7100 block of West Broadway in Brooklyn Park, the city where the man lives.
He tried to run from officers but was soon caught and jailed on suspicion of drug possession and third-degree murder, charge often associated with some who allegedly provided a lethal dose of an illicit drug. Police said in a statement that the woman and man “are known to each other.”
The man, who has yet to be charged in the woman’s death, was handed over in the meantime to authorities in Anoka County, where he awaits sentencing next week on a felony burglary conviction.
