Warrant: prison visitor tried to smuggle drugs in vagina
BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a visitor to a South Carolina prison tried to smuggle drugs inside her vagina.
Arrests warrants said investigators found about 30 grams (1 ounce) of methamphetamines and synthetic marijuana both in Tonya Elrod’s car and inside her vagina Sunday during visiting hours at Evans Correctional Institution.
The warrants say a dog sniffed the drugs and alerted its handler at the medium-security state prison in Bennettsville.
Elrod was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana, attempting to furnish a prisoner with contraband and criminal conspiracy.
Court records didn’t indicate if she had a lawyer.
