Primary elections held in 2 legislative districts
BOSTON (AP) — Primary elections have been held in two Massachusetts House districts where incumbents left to take jobs in Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration.
Adrian Madaro defeated four other candidates in the Democratic primary on Tuesday for the seat formerly held by Carlo Basile, a Democrat who resigned to become a legislative liaison for the Republican governor.
No Republican was running, but The Boston Globe (http://bit.ly/1BFkVMW ) reports that Joanne Pomodoro, an independent, will oppose Madaro in the March 31 special election.
Republican Hannah Kane and Democrat Jason Palitsch, both Shrewsbury residents, were unopposed in their respective primaries Tuesday in the 11th Worcester District. They will square off March 31 to fill the seat of former state Rep. Matthew Beaton, a Republican who is now the state secretary of energy and environmental affairs.
