Rowe man arrested on charges of raping relative
New Mexico State Police on Thursday arrested a Rowe man accused of raping and threatening a female relative over a period of several years.
Police have charged Miguel Vasquez-Ramirez, 78, with criminal sexual penetration, kidnapping and incest, following a nearly seven-month investigation that began after another relative of the man reported the girl had come forward with allegations she’d been raped repeatedly by Vasquez-Ramirez.
The girl, who first spoke with police during an interview in April, ran away from home several times and was sent to a behavioral health hospital in May after expressing suicidal thoughts, according to a state police criminal complaint against Vasquez-Ramirez and an arrest warrant affidavit. The girl is still in the hospital’s care, the affidavit says.
State police Lt. Elizabeth Armijo said officers arrested Vasquez-Ramirez Thursday “without incident.”
