Child transported to Colorado after being found unresponsive at Lake Minatare

July 22, 2018

A 4-year-old-boy was transported to a Denver hospital after being found unresponsive at Lake Minatare Saturday morning.

Emergency personnel responded to Lake Minatare at about 12:24 p.m.

Sheriff Mark Overman said that deputies were dispatched for a call of an unresponsive 4-year-old boy found in the water. Upon arrival, he said, deputies began CPR.

Valley Ambulance and Minatare Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene, and Air Link transported the child to Regional West Medical Center. The boy was later transported to Denver for medical treatment, Overman said.

The accident occurred on the northeast side of the lake, in the Butte View area, where primitive camping sites are located.

Overman said in a press release that because the incident is not considered a criminal investigation, he was not releasing names in the incident. The boy and his family are from Colorado, he said, and were in the area visiting relatives.

The Nebraska State Patrol and Nebraska Game and Parks officers assisted with the call.
