Phoenix police to probe allegations vs Tempe City Councilman
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Phoenix police will investigate allegations against Tempe City Councilman Kolby Granville that prompted his recent firing as a charter school teacher.
Two former students at Tempe Preparatory Academy have accused the 43-year-old Granville of giving them alcohol while they were underage and one of the ex-students alleges Granville made unwanted sexual advances toward her.
The Arizona Republic reports Granville has acknowledged having a relationship with one of his former students, but says it began when she was in college. He has denied the other allegations.
Tempe police announced Monday that due to potential conflict-of-interest issues and to ensure an unbiased process, they requested that Phoenix police investigate the matter.
Once the criminal investigation is concluded, Tempe will decide how to proceed with a separate City Council code of conduct investigation.
