Felon crosses border after chase in New Mexico
DEMING, N.M. (AP) — Authorities in southwestern New Mexico say a wanted felon was able to flee into Mexico after a chase that reached speeds of 100 mph before officers stopped the pursuit.
The Deming Headlight (http://bit.ly/1lCaWSp ) reports Deming police, Luna County sheriff’s deputies and Border Patrol agents participated in the pursuit Saturday night of 19-year-old Gerardo Jaramillo of Deming.
Officers and agents twice put down spike strips in an unsuccessful attempt to stop Jaramillo’s vehicle but he was able to still drive it across the international border.
The Headlight reports that Mexican police reportedly pursued the vehicle but were unable to apprehend Jaramillo. The vehicle was later returned to the United States.
According to the Headlight, Jaramillo is wanted in Luna County where he is accused of kidnapping, aggravated battery and robbery.
