Aiken’s Oktoberfest moved to Newberry Street

September 27, 2018

The location for Aiken’s Oktoberfest has been moved from the Hayne and Pendleton Festival Area.

The festival will now be held on Newberry Street in downtown Aiken.

Haley Knight, executive director of the Aiken Downtown Development Association, said the change in location was due to storm water issues.

“Over the past few months the ADDA has worked closely with the City of Aiken to monitor the progress of the storm water maintenance,” Knight said. “The initial plans were to have the work completed in time for Oktoberfest; however, some unforeseen issues have risen.”

This year will mark the sixth annual Oktoberfest Aiken has celebrated.

“We feel that the change in location is what’s best for the safety of our attendees, volunteers, and vendors,” Knight said. “ADDA and USCA are looking forward to a great sixth year of the Aiken Oktoberfest on Newberry Street at the same time, on the same day and with the same great fun.”

Oktoberfest will take place from 6 to 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 29. Admission is free and traditional German foods and beers will be available among concessions options. Food and drinks are cash only.

There will be a special filter on Snapchat for the event. Traditional German attire is encouraged.
