Jacqueline (Jackie) Pomel Pratt Maynard

July 15, 2018

Our loving mother, Jacqueline (Jackie) Pomel Pratt Maynard, was born in Salem, Utah on August 29, 1930 and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family in Salem, Utah on July 11, 2018.

When Jackie was six years old her mother, Evalyn Warren Pomel, passed away and Jackie went to live with her grandmother and aunts. She attended school in Spanish Fork through her sophomore year before moving to Port Orchard, Washington, and graduating from South Ketsap High School in 1948.

She attended BYU for one year before her marriage to Karl LeRoy (Roy) Pratt, Jr., and they were later sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple. Jackie and Roy lived in Duchesne, Heber City, Peoa, Oakley, Ogden, Washington Terrace and Brigham City. During that time Jackie became a proud mother of eight children (4 boys and 4 girls). She loved being a mother and her kids absolutely adored her. She was a remarkable example of unconditional love and shared that love so freely with everyone she met.

She converted to the LDS church during her marriage to Roy and held every position in the Primary except one. Music director was her favorite calling and Primary music was her favorite music.

Roy died on September 7, 1977 and Jackie moved to Pleasant Grove and received her Associates Degree in Library Technologies at BYU. She worked at the BYU Herald B. Lee Library in the book conservation and repair department and at the general reference desk until leaving school to marry David Sherman Maynard on September 1, 1981.

David and Jackie traveled for 6 ½ years in their RV before serving an LDS mission in Sparks, Nevada. David became ill and they settled down in Salem to live out their lives. They had one more child, a poodle named Charlie, who instantly connected to Jackie and became her constant companion. Her favorite things were to read, crochet, knit, sew, cross stitch, plastic canvas, ceramics, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and almost every craft or puzzle she could find.

Jackie is survived by her sister, Evalyn (and Robert) Heringer, and children, Steve and Roxanne Pratt, Terry Pratt, Deborah and Will Webster, Kathy and Russ James, Alan and Tracy Pratt, and Becky and Will McGarvey.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred Leon and Evalyn Warren Pomel; husbands, Roy Pratt and David Maynard; daughter, Mary Sharon Pratt (1 year old); son, Mike Pratt; and grandson, Curtis James (7 years old).

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Salem Knoll Park Ward, 160 South 460 West, Salem, Utah. Family and friends may visit on Friday evening, July 13, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church, and on Saturday from 12:45-1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
