Area Man Wins Jeopardy! For Second Show In A Row
Call it a case of deja vu.
Old Forge resident Dave Mattingly again won Jeopardy! on Monday night by identifying that French phrase as the correct Final Jeopardy question.
Like the first time he won the program on Friday, he racked up enough of a lead to bet nothing on the Final Jeopardy question and walk away the winner.
Host Alex Trebek provided a hint about a French-named phenomenon synonymous with paramnesia.
“Sound familiar?” Trebek asked the contestants.
“What is deja vu?” was the question the game show host was looking for.
Unlike Friday night, when Mattingly held a commanding lead through most of the program, he needed to come from behind to win Monday. He found his stride during Double Jeopardy, converting one of two Daily Doubles during that round to earn enough cash that his competition couldn’t catch him during the show’s final moments.
“It was something. It was very dramatic,” said Mattingly, the director of technology for iGourmet in West Pittston.
His two-day winnings come to $48,800.
Mattingly taped the episodes in April and had forgotten some of the details about the categories and questions, he said. While watching at a friend’s house Monday night, it was fun to revisit the experience, he said.
Monday night’s program offered an additional local connection, one that involved the man who came up with Jeopardy!
After the first commercial break, host Alex Trebek asked Mattingly about his cat, named Merv Griffin. Griffin created the show in 1964.
The feline, now 7 years old, got his last name from where Mattingly adopted him from, Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, Mattingly explained to Trebek.
Mattingly will again appear on Jeopardy! tonight. To see if he continues his winning streak, tune in to WBRE at 7:30 p.m.
