The village of Bourbonnais and the Bourbonnais Township Park District co-hosted the third annual Chocolate Tour in February. The sold-out event sent 350 participants on a decadent journey exploring village of Bourbonnais businesses.

This year’s event proceeds totaled more than $11,000, which will be applied to improvements and new programs at the Children’s Safety Center, 747 Stratford Dr. East in Bourbonnais. The Safety Center was built in 1996 to educate children, through hands-on experience, to protect themselves in dangerous situations such as fire, abductions or abuse.

The 2018 proceeds totaled more than $7,000 and contributed to the purchase of new equipment at the Event and Skate Plaza, a collaborative effort between village of Bourbonnais and BTPD. The Chocolate Tour committee stated the 2019 event was larger because of increased community participation. The maximum of 350 tickets sold out in a record-setting nine days.

“The success of this event is due to the community,” said Bourbonnais Mayor Paul Schore. “We appreciate everyone who participated and supported the Chocolate Tour. The village and BTPD already are exploring the best options in applying the proceeds to the Children’s Safety Center for increased youth utilization.”

The 2020 Chocolate Tour has been scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 1.
