Couple seeks help in caring for cemetery
POCA, W.Va. — Dale and Hotchie Parkins have been taking care of a small, antique cemetery for almost two decades.
Mowing, weed-eating, picking up debris and hauling in dirt, the couple has worked since 2002 to make sure Lilly Cemetery, located on a small hill off of Silver Road, remained in good condition not only for people who visited, but also for those honored with headstones scattered around the two acres of land.
Now, the Parkinses have decided they will no longer be able to take care of the land and are looking to pass the torch to someone.
Dale Parkins said she feels as though the little cemetery where her parents and grandparents are buried has been forgotten about. Going to the cemetery was something she used to do with her family.
