Bethlehem Steel Announces Increase
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) _ Bethlehem Steel Corp. announced Tuesday that it would raise prices for sheet metal from 5 percent to 7 percent on some shipments beginning Jan. 3.
Prices for accounts not fully affected by previous increases of up to 10 percent this year will be raised up to $30 per ton, said Gary Graham, spokesman for the nation’s No. 3 steelmaker.
The company said efforts will be made to minimize both the number and duration of firm price contracts to better respond to changing market conditions and possible increases in the cost of producing steel.
