Director of 2004 Games Resigns

June 22, 2000

ATHENS, Greece (AP) _ The managing director of the 2004 Olympic organizing committee resigned in the latest high level shake-up in the preparation for the games, a government official said Thursday.

There was no immediate reason given for the departure of Costas Bakouris, a former business executive who was one of the first top officials to join the Athens organizing committee in 1998.

Government spokesman Dimitris Reppas confirmed Bakouris was leaving the post. Reppas added, however, that Bakouris would have some ``responsible″ role in the Olympic preparations.

Bakouris could not be immediately reached for comment.

Bakouris was replaced by Petros Sinadinos, an architect who played an important role in Athens’ successful bid for the games.
