Republican donates to 2 Delaware Democrats, raising eyebrows
DOVER, Del. (AP) — The head of the Delaware Democratic Party has criticized two primary candidates who have taken donations from a Republican state senator.
The News Journal reports former gubernatorial candidate Colin Bonini has donated to two Democrats running for seats in the General Assembly. Last month, the Dover Republican donated the maximum $600 to Wilmington City Councilman Sam Guy’s campaign for state Senate, with $500 going to state Rep. Charles Potter’s re-election campaign.
Each is running in contested Democratic primaries for seats for which no Republicans will stand in the general election.
Their primary opponents have raised concerns about influence, and state party executive director Jesse Chadderdon says Democrats shouldn’t take donations from those who oppose the party’s agenda.
Bonini says Guy and Potter are personal friends, and his donations aren’t political.
