Police identify Greensboro officer who died after responding to robbery
Greensboro police have identified the officer who died last week following a crash.
According to police, Officer Jared William Franks, 24, and a second officer crashed while attempting to locate the car of a robbery suspect. The crash happened at Elm-Eugene Street and Webster Road. As a result of the crash, both officers were taken to a local hospital, where Franks died from severe injuries.
The second officer is being treated but should be okay, officials said.
Franks joined the Greensboro Police Department in 2016 and was a member of the 101st Police Academy. The department is asking for privacy.
