Greater Lowell Tech Giving Tree Branches Out
TYNGSBORO -- For many years, Greater Lowell Technical High School has organized support for families in the Lowell area by participating in the annual Gift Giving Tree Project, serviced by Community Teamwork, Inc., one of the school’s community partners.
Each year, those who choose to participate select a tag from the Giving Tree, purchase and wrap the items listed on the tag, then return them to the superintendent’s office.
Greater Lowell Tech staff members Cheryl Gosselin and Colette Edmunds catalog and assemble all of the gift bags and work with CTI Program Manager Kelly Poindexter to arrange for pickup and delivery to families in need.
This year, due to the economic conditions, the school received 102 gift tags. With help from Girl Scout Troop 12070 of Hudson, N.H., the Greater Lowell Tech community stepped up and delivered.
The troop was looking to give back to the community this holiday season by doing a community-service project, and troop leaders Stephanie Romero and Julie Meehan, who is a Math teacher at Greater Lowell Tech, came up with the idea of giving back by helping girls the same age as the girls in the troop.
The Scouts had a blast shopping at Walmart and wrapping the presents.
