IRVING, Texas (AP) _ Byron Hanspard rushed for a school-record 272 yards and scored two touchdowns Saturday as Texas Tech rolled to a 31-3 victory over Oklahoma State in the first Big 12 game between the teams.

Hanspard scored on runs of 72 and 2 yards before he was lifted from the game early in the fourth quarter after 29 carries. He broke the Tech rushing record of 268 yards by James Hadnot against New Mexico in 1978.

Hanspard, a junior, broke three tackles on his 72-yard run. He set up his second touchdown with consecutive runs of 12, 24, 25, 13, 4, and 2 yards.

Jaret Greaser kicked four field goals for Tech.

Tech (1-1), which lost 21-14 to Kansas State last week, got another score when tight end Brad Spinks recovered quarterback Zebbie Lethridge’s fumble in the end zone.

Greaser kicked two field goals of 40 yards, a 42-yarder and another from 37 yards.

Oklahoma State (1-1), which opened with a 23-20 overtime win over Southwest Missouri State, avoided a shutout with a 36-yard field goal by Tim Sydnes.
