SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) — Authorities have identified a 78-year-old woman they say drowned when she was swimming with her granddaughter in Rhode Island.

South Kingstown police say they were called to Larkin Pond where Judith Barnett was pulled from the water Tuesday afternoon. Lifeguards were performing CPR on the woman when first responders arrived, and officials attempted to resuscitate the woman for 30 minutes before she was rushed to a hospital.

Officials say Barnett's granddaughter had alerted the lifeguards that her grandmother needed help.

Barnett was later pronounced dead. Officials say the autopsy results indicate she drowned.
