Donald Trump stands by Brett Kavanaugh in light of new sexual misconduct allegations

September 24, 2018

President Trump stood by Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh Monday after new sexual misconduct allegations came out Sunday night against his Supreme Court nominee.

The president described Judge Kavanaugh as “a fine man” as he spoke with pool reporters at the U.N. General Assembly.

Mr. Trump also said the allegations against Judge Kavanaugh by California professor Christine Blasey Ford were “highly unsubstantiated” and “totally political.” He suggested Ms. Blasey Ford’s attorneys be looked into.

Judge Kavanaugh was initially accused of sexually assaulting Ms. Blasey Ford during a party while they were both in high school more than three decades ago. After several days of back and forth between her legal team and the Senate GOP, Ms. Blasey Ford is scheduled to testify about her allegations on Thursday.

On Sunday, the New Yorker published new allegations that Judge Kavanaugh exposed himself to a classmate, Deborah Ramirez, at a party during their freshman year at Yale.

Judge Kavanaugh has denied both allegations.

“There’s a chance that this could be one of the single most unfair, unjust things to happen to a candidate for anything,” Mr. Trump said.
