Drunken Soldier Kills Two Army Captains
BACOLOD, Philippines (AP) _ A drunken soldier killed two army captains who had reprimanded him for his unruly behavior when intoxicated, the military said Thursday.
Maj. Eladio Parcon, area military command spokesman, said the incident took place Wednesday evening inside the army headquarters in this central Philippine city.
Parcon said Capt. Evelio Pino, command supply officer, and Capt. Alberto Paguntalan, administrative officer, died after being shot several times.
He said Staff Sgt. Vicente Jakosalem barged into the officers’ quarters and opened fire with an M-16 automatic rifle. Jakosalem surrendered after the incident, Parcon said.
Parcon said the two officers had repeatedly reprimanded the soldier for being unruly when he had been drinking. He added that the soldier was intoxicated when he killed the officers.
