Nevada Club Inn settlement before supervisors Monday

September 17, 2018

KINGMAN — Discussion of a property tax case involving a Bullhead City motel is on the agenda for Monday’s meeting of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors.

The supervisors will discuss a settlement in a property tax appeal case for a parcel in Bullhead City. The settlement would reduce the full cash value from $942,435 to $374,288 with a tax reduction from $16,948 to $6,723.

The 80-room Nevada Club Inn is at 336 Lee Ave. and is in disrepair. The motel was built in 1988 and expanded in 1992. The current owner, 110 AM, LLC, bought the property in May through bankruptcy court for $374,288.

In other action, the supervisors will hear a presentation from U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Prescott, recognizing sheriff’s office Sgt. Kyler Cox for service above and beyond the call of duty.

The supervisors will look to award a contract to T.R. Orr, Inc. to complete the Bullhead City courthouse jury box project in the amount of $59,889. The jury box will seat seven jurors and will be designed to accommodate up to 10 jurors for a Superior Court case. Funding will come from Superior Court’s Fill the Gap funding and the justice court fee account.

The board will discuss the county joining current prescription opioid litigation in Arizona and across the country. Kingman, Phoenix and Apache, La Paz, Cochise and Maricopa counties have joined the lawsuit. The defendants are prescription drug manufacturers and distributors.

Also before the board is a review of the job description for an economic development and public information director. The annual pay range would be from $80,246 to $124,529.

The supervisors will discuss a property tax appeals case, Transwestern Pipeline Co. v. Arizona Department of Revenue, for the tax years of 2016 and 2017.

The board will look to eliminate a position in the public defender’s office and provide pay increases for six other positions starting Sept. 29.

The supervisors will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the county administration building at 700 W. Beale St. in Kingman.
