Alexander defeats Pointers in section

SOUTH POINT — Alexander scored six runs in the first two innings and held off a late rally to defeat South Point 6-3 Wednesday in the OHSAA baseball Division III Chillicothe 2 sectionals.

The loss ended the season for South Point (10-12).

Dawson Runyon had a two-run double that followed an RBI single by Zach Cline as South Point attempted to rally in the seventh inning.

WELLSTON 11, CHESAPEAKE 1: A sacrifice fly scored Timothy Stanley in the bottom of the sixth to give the Golden Rockets an 11-1 win over the Panthers Wednesday in Wellston, Ohio, where the two teams met in an OHSAA Division III sectional game.

Chesapeake got just two hits in the contest, including one by Trent Dearth, who scored the only run for the Panthers.

IRONTON 7, MEIGS 4: A five-run third inning proved too much for the Marauders, and the Fighting Tigers rolled to a sectional victory. Jacob Sloan pitched five innings for Ironton, allowing three runs on six hits and two strikeouts. Ironton advanced to meet Wheelersburg in the sectional final. The game will be played at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wheelersburg.

Tuesday games

SOUTHERN 6, COAL GROVE 5: Gage Shuler went 2 for 3 with four runs scored and Billy Harmon drove in two as the Tornadoes (15-7) defeated the Hornets in a sectional final in Racine, Ohio. Ben Compliment and Tait Matney each went 2 for 3 for Coal Grove. Southern plays Green at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Chillicothe in the district tournament.

SOUTH WEBSTER 3, IRONTON ST. JOE 0: The Jeeps scored three runs in the fifth inning to beat the Flyers (15-11) in a Division IV sectional championship game in Ironton. Brice Robnett went 2 for 4 and drove in two runs. Riley Cook drove in one run.

GREEN 4, MANCHESTER 2: Tanner Kimbler struck out 13 and allowed two hits to lead the Bobcats (21-3) by the Greyhounds in a Division IV sectional tournament game. Mason Barber went 2 for 3 with three RBI. Eli Webb went 2 for 4. Green plays Southern at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Chillicothe in the sectional tournament.

Tuesday softball

SHERMAN 7, WAHAMA 2: The visiting Tide (29-4) broke the Falcons’ 23-game winning streak in the opening round of the Class A, Region IV tournament. Autumn Thompson struck out five in earning the win. Hailea Skeens led Sherman with three hits. Sydnee Ferrell and Chelsea Thompson had two hits apiece. Hannah Rose and Tanner King each had two hits for Wahama (29-2).

NITRO 15, LINCOLN COUNTY 3: The Wildcats (27-8) beat the Panthers (21-15) to win their first Class AA, Region IV championship. Kerigan Moore went 3 for 4 with three RBI.
