Investigation to be conducted, grand jury to be convened, in death of Scottsbluff man in custody
A grand jury will be convened to examine the death of a 23-year-old Scottsbluff man.
Corey Green died Friday at Regional West Medical Center.
Scottsbluff Police Chief Kevin Spencer confirmed that police arrested Green on a warrant Friday and the man was transported to the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center, where he was booked into the jail.
At the detention center, Scotts Bluff County Attorney Dave Eubanks said, Green made “complaints” and he was transported to Regional West Medical Center for a medical condition.
Green died at the hospital, though Eubanks said details about the cause of his death were not available. An autopsy is being conducted Tuesday and as part of that autopsy, Eubanks said toxicology tests will be ordered. It will be at least a couple of weeks before toxicology results will be known, at which point Eubanks says he will schedule a grand jury hearing as required by law.
Nebraska state statute requires that a grand jury be convened to examine any death of an individual while being apprehended or in custody.
Eubanks said he will name three investigators to oversee the investigation, however, the county attorney’s office is in the beginning stages of the process.
