Occasion Ends As 8th Child Completes Acronym

June 7, 1991

RUSTON, La. (AP) _ Ron and Beth Breeland just had their eighth child and named her Nina, completing a family ″occasion,″ so to speak.

Nina, born May 24 at Lincoln General Hospital, was given a name starting with ″n″ to spell out the word occasion with her siblings: Olivia, 16; Candida, 15; Camilla, 11; Angela, 10; Sylvia, 6; Ivan Ray, 4; and Odessa, 3.

It began as a joke. Beth Breeland said that by the time she named her third child, her husband checked a dictionary to see if they were composing an acronym with their offspring’s names.

″He said we could either spell occur or occasion,″ Beth said. She said she preferred occasion because the way it sounds.

Mrs. Breeland said she expects Nina to be her last child.
