Two-Year Sentence for Letting Roommate Die in Snowstorm
LITTLE FALLS, Minn. (AP) _ A man was sentenced to two years in prison Tuesday for allowing his roommate to die of exposure in a snowstorm despite her pleas for help.
Wallace Thompson, 33, of Randall was given the sentence in Morrison County District Court by Judge Roger Klaphake after pleading guilty July 2 to charges of second-degree manslaughter in the March 4 death of Josephine Kohl, 63.
Thompson told authorities he had pushed Kohl out of a mobile home they shared. According to court records, Thompson had returned from a tavern and saw Kohl lying on the couch. The two quarreled and he threw her out into the snow.
Kohl was wearing jeans and a pullover top and was not wearing a coat. Temperatures were in the 20s, but heavy snow was falling and there were high winds.
