Things to do and look forward to in 2019

As the new year begins and people make resolutions, try adding a bit of art culture and running to the list of goals for 2019. The Woodlands has plenty to offer from a variety of art and food events to concerts to 5K races and triathlon competitions throughout the year. Here are some annual festivities to mark down on the calendar.

Annual Events

ArtFeel Live: Local art enthusiasts and residents can gather in the cozy environs of The Crush Wine Lounge to sip vino, dine on delectable treats and most importantly, share their love of everything art as well as build camaraderie and friendship every month. Taste of the Town: This large food and beverage expo showcases menu items from over 40 area restaurants, bakeries, and beverage distributors. The event will be from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center. Hosted by The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, this event features culinary specialties and the 2019 “Best of Taste” competition. Learn more at https://bit.ly/2LCqNQp.

Inspire Film Festival: This five-day cinematic experience dedicated to entertaining and inspiring audiences with films, speakers and events that celebrate the human spirit is scheduled for Feb. 14 through 18. More than 25 feature-length and short films highlighting local and international game changers who inspire the world will be showcased. The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival: The Woodlands Arts Council will present the 14th Annual Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival on April 13 and 14 at Town Green Park and the waterway, which will be transformed into an outdoor art gallery featuring over 200 juried artists from across the country. The event also will feature four entertainment stages, hands-on art activities and demonstrations, and amazing food and beverages all weekend long. Wine & Food Week: Set for June 3 through June 9, Wine & Food Week has a full slate of events from the H-E-B Wine Walk to The Wine Rendezvous Grand Tasting & Chef Showcase. The week is filled with opportunities to sample local and international wines and foods as well as educational lunches and brunches with carefully selected menus. Other events to look forward to include the Children’s Festival at The Pavilion in November, the John Cooper School’s Signature Author Series and numerous holiday events such as the annual Lighting of the Doves Ceremony.

Annual Races

The Woodlands Marathon: The marathon, half marathon, 5k, relay, and 2k Fun Run traverse the streets of Town Center and the community on a pretty flat course, finishing on the scenic Waterway. The races will be held Saturday, March 2. The Woodlands Marathon is a Boston qualifier and registration is open now. For more information, visit https://bit.ly/2BJEh8x.

Muddy Trails Bash: Offering a fun, festive and zydeco-themed atmosphere, Muddy Trails Bash is scheduled for Saturday, April 6, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Rob Fleming Park. This multifaceted running event features chip-timed 5K and 10K trail runs, the Little Muddy Kids’ Fun Run, 2K-9 Dog Fun Run and the Muddy Bowl Crawfish Cook-Off. Participants will enjoy boiled crawfish, live zydeco music, children’s activities and more. Courses wind through the George Mitchell Nature Preserve. Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Triathlon: The annual Memorial Hermann IRONMAN North American Championship, which will be held on April 27, is a qualifier race for the 2019 IRONMAN World Championship race. Woodforest Bank TRI - The Woodlands: The USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned event will take place on Saturday, May 11, from 7 to 11:30 a.m. at Northshore Park. Hosting a field of more than 1,200 athletes, the sprint triathlon is comprised of a 500-meter open water swim in Lake Woodlands, bike course winding through The Woodlands (distance TBA) and a 5K run along The Woodlands Waterway. Memorial Hermann 10 for Texas: The annual Memorial Hermann 10 for Texas race is set for Saturday, October 12, from 7 to 11:30 a.m., at Northshore Park. The USATF-sanctioned event offers a certified 10-mile course, plus the 3.1 Armadillo Run 5K and One 4 Texas Kids’ Fun Run. After racing to the finish, participants can refuel and recover at the Texas-sized post-race party, featuring great food, beverages and live country music. YMCA Run Thru the Woods: A local Thanksgiving morning tradition, YMCA Run Thru the Woods, has supported local non-profits with the goal of strengthening The Woodlands, Spring and Oak Ridge communities. The 2019 race will be held on thursday, Nov. 28. Registration will open later in the year. Go to http://runthruthewoods.org/ to learn more.

Other races to look out for include the CASA Superhero Run in the fall, the Woodforest Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot and numerous 5K events throughout the year.
