No. 24 New Mexico St. 128, Morgan St. 71
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) _ Terry Bennett scored 27 points in the second half, including a school- record nine 3-pointers, as No. 24 New Mexico State demolished Morgan State 128-71 Saturday night.
The Aggies also broke the school record for most 3-point baskets in a game with 19 out of 34 attempts. The old record was 12 set against UC-Santa Barbara in 1988.
New Mexico State (8-1) of the Big West Conference extended its home winning streak to 23 games. Morgan State of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference fell to 0-9 - all losses on the road.
The Aggies never trailed and broke the game open midway through the first half with an 18-3 run to take a 37-13 lead with 7:50 left.
Bennett finished 9 of 13 from 3-point range in the second half, which accounted for all of his points. The old school record for individual 3- pointers was seven, set by Jeff McCool in 1989.
The closest the Bears could get in the second half was 62-33 on a basket by Glenn Smith, who was the game’s leading scorer with 28 points.
Ron Putzi and William Benjamin both scored 16 points for the Aggies, while Reggie Jordan added 14 and Randy Brown 13.
