SCOTTSBLUFF — West Nebraska Arts Center is pleased to present a call for artists for the 2019 Juried Art Exhibit. The Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment sponsor this gallery exhibit. Entries received Dec.18-23: artists will be notified on Dec. 27 if their artwork is selected for the exhibit. Dec. 28-30: artist pick up of entries not selected. The 2019 Juried Art Exhibit will be on display at WNAC Jan. 3-27, 2019. An opening reception will be Thursday, Jan. 3, from 5-7 p.m. WNAC will be closed Dec. 24-26 for the holidays. Most artwork is for sale and can be viewed during business hours: Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m., and is free and open to the public.

All artwork in the 2019 Juried Art Exhibit will be selected by artist Sara Sharples. Sharples is an artist and art historian living in Colorado Springs. She was just 9 years old when she began entering and winning juried art competitions. With this love for art discovered, Sharples went on to obtain an Associate of the Arts degree in art history from Pikes Peak Community College and graduated from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs with a bachelor’s in art history, with a focus on fine art and gallery management.

For two years Sharples served on the board of the Colorado Springs Art Guild, helping to produce juried art shows and provide classes for its members. Today, she works for the Pikes Peak Library District where she develops arts and crafts programs for adults and teens in the library’s Makerspace.

Photography, drawing and crafting continue to be a hobby and passion for Sharples and she seeks out art whenever and wherever she can.

“We look forward to having the 2019 Juried Art Exhibit, which happens every two years and excited to see new artwork create by artists.” said Maria Lena Medina, WNAC program manager.
