Phillies’ Polanco Placed on DL

April 24, 2003

PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Placido Polanco was placed on the 15 day disabled list after Wednesday night’s 6-4 win over the Colorado Rockies.

Polanco has missed seven games since bruising his right ring finger when he was hit by a pitch April 14 by Florida’s Josh Beckett. Phillies manager Larry Bowa said that it would be at least five more days before Polanco will be ready to play. The roster move was made retroactive to April 16.

Polanco, obtained from St. Louis last July 29 in the Scott Rolen trade, is hitting .321 with five RBIs and four doubles in 14 games.

Outfielder Chase Utley was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
