CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson underwent successful quadruple heart bypass surgery Thursday after a catheterization determined he had an irregular heartbeat.

Dr. Mark Stiegel performed the three-hour operation at Carolinas Medical Center and said the 66-year-old Richardson should make a full recovery.

``The surgery is our most common operation and went as we had hoped, with no complications,″ Stiegel said. ``He has a very strong heart and should have a full and complete recovery. His energy level should return to normal in four to six weeks.″

Richardson was hospitalized Oct. 4 with an intestinal infection; the irregular heart rhythm was detected during his stay. He is expected to remain hospitalized for another week.
