Lawmaker Praises Starr in Song

WASHINGTON (AP) _ ``Mr. Speaker,″ intoned Rep. Mike Pappas of New Jersey, the usual opening for a comment on the House floor. Then he launched into praise of Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr.

In song. To the tune of ``Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.″

A sample verse:

``Then the Congress in the dark,

``Thanks you for your courage and spark.

``We could not see which way to go,

``If you did not lead us so.

``Twinkle, twinkle Kenneth Starr,

``Now we see how brave you are.″

The performance earned Pappas a round of applause.

He is one of four Republican freshmen who formed a barbershop quartet last year, but he performed solo on Tuesday.
