Massachusetts governor-elect guest at Rhode Island inaugural
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Massachusetts Republican Gov.-elect Charlie Baker says he’s attending Gina Raimondo’s inauguration in Rhode Island because she’s planning to go to his.
Baker says he invited all governors from the Northeast to this inauguration Thursday in Boston. He says they have common interests, notably the high cost of energy, and he wants to start discussing those issues with them as soon as possible.
Raimondo is being sworn in Tuesday in a ceremony outside the Statehouse on the south portico.
She’s the first Democrat elected to the job since 1992 and the first woman elected governor of Rhode Island.
Raimondo is replacing Lincoln Chafee, who didn’t seek a second term.
