Doris Anna White Parks, 90, of Austin, Texas, and formerly of Union Hill and St. Anne, passed away Monday (April 29, 2019) in Austin, Texas, as a result of congestive heart failure.
She was born Nov. 10, 1928, in St. Anne, the daughter of Ralph and Clara (Morrical) White. Doris married Francis Leo Parks on March 13, 1954. He preceded her in death March 3, 2007.
Doris graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1949. She served as a nurse for 45 years in Illinois at the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration, Presence St. Mary’s Hospital and Riverside Medical Center.
She also served as village treasurer for Union Hill, where she lived for more than 30 years.
Doris enjoyed genealogy, reading, traveling, camping, gardening, cooking for family gatherings and eating ice cream.
Surviving are her son, Leo (Glenn) Parks, of Austin, Texas; sister, Alice (David) Tower, of Seymour, Tenn.; brother, Leonard (Evelyn) White, of Cornell, Mich.; and sisters-in-law, Shirley White, of Bark River, Mich., Violet St. Aubin, of Warrenton, Mo., and Verla Parks, of Geneva.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joel Parks; and brothers, Richard White and Wayne White.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service and picnic will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in Webb Cemetery east of Goreville. Family and friends are welcome.
