Joyce M. Engelbrecht

Joyce M. Engelbrecht, of Watertown, passed away at the age of 76 on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

Joyce was born to Franklin and Verna (nee Raabe) Genz on Aug. 25, 1941, and went to school in a one-room school house on Ski Slide Road in Ixonia. She graduated from Oconomowoc High School in June of 1959. After her graduation, she was employed at Brandt’s until the beginning of February in 1962. She later worked at Lindberg Hevi-Duty for over 35 years and then De La Rue for eight years. After her marriage to Herbie on Jan. 21, 1961, at Cross Lutheran Church in Ixonia, she joined the Watertown Moravian Church. Joyce loved playing cards, especially sheepshead and euchre, as well as coloring and puzzles.

She is survived by her husband, Herbie; daughter Patti (Douglas) Sperl and grandsons, James and Jordan Sperl, all of Savage, Minnesota. She is also survived by her brother, Gerald (Sue) Genz of Oconomowoc; brothers-in-law, the Rev. Robert (Joan) Engelbrecht of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and David Engelbrecht of Watertown; sisters-in-law, Rita Engelbrecht of Pell City, Alabama, Nancy Engelbrecht of Watertown and Shirley Olsen of Royal Oak, Michigan; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roger Genz of Watertown; niece, Kimberly of Oconomowoc; parents-in-law, Herbert F. and Esther Engelbrecht of Watertown; brothers-in-law, Jon Engelbrecht of Pell City, Alabama, Allen Engelbrecht of Watertown and Jim Olsen of Royal Oak, Michigan.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Watertown Moravian Church on the corner of Sixth and Cole streets with the Rev. Kurt Liebenow officiating. Burial will take place at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia. Family and friends may gather at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials can be given to the Watertown Moravian Church or a charity of your choice.
