Kroger teams up with Toys ‘R’ Us to bring nostalgia to stores

November 30, 2018

Kroger is bringing Geoffrey’s Toy Box to 22 local greater Houston area stores - including two in Katy - sparking “nostalgia” from Toys “R” Us fanatics.

Geoffrey’s Toy Boxes will be sold at select Krogers across Houston starting $9.99 to $49.99 and will feature exclusive toys, such as Animal Zone, Imaginarium, Journey Girls and Edu Science, said Sparkle Anderson said, Kroger Corporate Affairs Manager.

“We’re really trying to key into that nostalgia that so many people have for Toys ‘R’ Us and really show people that Kroger is a destination for their Christmas shopping,” Anderson said. “(Kroger) can be a one-stop shop. You can get your groceries and toys for your children for the holiday season.”

The toys will be placed in the drug and general merchandizing section of the store, where other seasonal items are placed, Anderson said, adding that the items went onto shelves in early November.

Erica Lunn, Kroger market place field specialist, said that while the Geoffrey Toy Boxes are not exclusive to Kroger, she had not noticed any other stores selling them.

She added the toys have been “selling like crazy” and that customers have been excited to see Geoffrey the Giraffe merchandise on the packaging.

The toys will be available through the holiday season, Anderson said.

The Geoffrey’s Toy Boxes will be available at the Kroger on West Grand Parkway and Spring Green Boulevard. Conroe, Humble, League City, Willis, Huntsville also made the list.

Kroger’s sales rose by 6.3 percent over last year and steadily increased over five years to $122.6 billion from $98.3 billion in 2014, according to Kroger financial reports.
