Trump: Kavanaugh is ‘under assault by radical left’
President Trump said Friday if the alleged attack on Christine Blasey Ford was “as bad as she says,” the local police would have been contacted, defending his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh against the decades-old sexual assault accusation.
Ms. Blasey Ford came forward over the weekend claiming Judge Kavanaugh forced himself on her more than three decades ago when the two were in high school.
“I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!” Mr. Trump tweeted Friday.
Ms. Blasey Ford initially said she wanted to testify, but then walked that claim back once the Judiciary Committee held off voting on Judge Kavanaugh Thursday and instead scheduled a hearing for Monday.
Earlier this week, she demanded the FBI investigate her story before she answers any questions. But on Thursday, she appeared willing to negotiate the terms of a hearing through her lawyer, who demanded a number of preconditions including not testifying in the same room as Judge Kavanaugh, subpoenaing witnesses Ms. Blasey Ford says were present at the time of the attack and also to have no time limit placed on her opening statement.
“The radical left lawyers want the FBI to get involved NOW. Why didn’t someone call the FBI 36 years ago?” Mr. Trump also tweeted.
“Judge Brett Kavanaugh is a fine man, with an impeccable reputation, who is under assault by radical left wing politicians who don’t want to know the answers, they just want to destroy and delay. Facts don’t matter. I go through this with them every single day in D.C.,” the president added.
