CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) _ Tony Brus, stepping in after leading scorer Jason Daisy was ejected, came off the bench for 18 points Thursday as Northern Iowa beat Central Florida 76-71.

Harry Kennedy led Central Florida (2-5) with a game-high 22 points. Stacey Castle added 18 points for the Knights before fouling out with 8 seconds left in the game.

Northern Iowa (5-1) took a 41-38 lead with 16:28 left in play when Daisy completed a three-point play. Five seconds later, a second technical foul was called on Daisy and he was ejected.

Daisy, the nation’s leading scorer averaging 30.8 points a game, left with 11 points. Jason Sims also had 11 points for the Panthers and Brian Carpenter added 10.

Even after Daisy’s ejection, the Panthers never trailed and led by as many as 8 points, 50-42, on Warren VanDeven’s free throw with 13:26 left in play.

Central Florida had 28 turnovers to Northern Iowa’s 15. The Knights outrebounded the Panthers 46-35.
