Two Austrian Climbers Killed by Lightning

TRENTO, Italy (AP) _ A bolt of lightning killed two young Austrian climbers as they were scaling a mountain in this northern Italian region, ANSA news agency reported Sunday.

Franz Plainer, 22, and his fiancee Irene Scharattecker, 19, were struck by lightning Saturday during a storm while climbing an Alpine mountain face north of Trento, the report said.

Six other Austrians climbing with the couple escaped uninjured, ANSA said.
