WATSEKA — Donald O. Russell, of Watseka, was arrested by Watseka police after he and an accomplice battered and robbed a man on Thursday.
The Iroquois County State’s Attorney’s office charged Russell, 37, with robbery, mob action, theft and attempting to escape a peace officer. A judge set Russell’s bond at $50,000.
According to Watseka police, Russell and another man approached the victim and questioned his gender identity at 1:17 a.m. in the 100 block of East Oak Street.
As the victim attempted to walk away, he was punched in the face, and they took his money and fled on foot. The victim called 911, and officers were able to locate Russell.
Police continue to look for the other suspect.
